Presentation at the Google Flood Forecasting Workshop

Prof. Justin Sheffield presented the African Flood and Drought Monitor at the Google Flood Forecasting Meets Machine Learning Workshop in January 2023

Title - Approaches to flood (and drought) early warning with the African Flood and Drought Monitor

Abstract - The African Flood and Drought Monitor (AFDM) is a collaboration between the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrology Programme, University of Southampton, Princeton University and Princeton Climate Institute. The AFDM is based on a global system that couples satellite remote sensing with climate and hydrological models to provide near real-time monitoring, short-term and seasonal hydrological forecasts in support of water and food security challenges. This talk provides an overview of the AFDM approach and how this is being implemented in tailored national systems including new work on providing field-scale hydrological forecasts aimed at communities.
