We have been at the forefront of water and climate research and applications since the 1980s

Our mission.

Princeton Climate Institute’s mission is to organise global research in hydrology and climate science to benefit governments and populations in need.  Led by Professor Justin Sheffield,  PCI brings together scientists and experts from around the world to bring to light climate risks and to work with NGOs and government agencies to mitigate those risks.

Funding.

As a non-profit organisation, PCI obtains funding for its mission from two primary sources: donors (individual and corporate) and funding from participation in projects (government, NGO, and corporate).

Our work.

We work across the world in collaboration with governments, NGOs, and research organisations on research and applications around climate and water risks. We bring together academics, researchers, practitioners and decision makers to use the latest science to improve our understanding, decision making and policy around risks.

Who we are.

PCI was founded in 2020 by Prof. Justin Sheffield, Prof. Eric F. Wood, Prof. John Kimball, Catherine McVay Hughes, and Dr. Tony Busalacchi, who between them have decades of experience in hydrological and climate science, and advising on environmental issues. The board of directors also includes Prof. Jean-Marie Kileshye Onema, from the University of Lubumbashi, DR Congo.

Our science.

Our work is open-access. We generate new science that is published in peer-reviewed, open-access science journals. We generate new models and datasets that are open-source and open-data, to be used, re-used and improved by the community.
